The Open Day for 2013 is cancelled.
Every Good Friday, there is an open invitation to the nation to join the Lambourn experience. Members of the thriving Lambourn Trainers Association (LTA) open their stables to the public in the morning, and then invite the visitors to stay on for a feast of entertainment during the afternoon. The day has grown a wonderful carnival atmosphere of its own.
Popularity of the event, now into its second decade and currently sponsored by the Systems By Design, increases year on year and in 2002 brought upwards of 10,000 people and made around £30,000 for our specified charities.
Apart from donations to buttress local good causes, including the village primary school, funds generated by the Open Day have financed the construction of modern homes for racing staff, including a project of 12 smart properties at Francome Fields on the edge of the village.
Affordable housing has been a perpetual problem, as a direct result of Lambourn’s popularity as a desirable area in which to live.
The LTA, since its inception in 1989 under the chairmanship of tireless stalwart Peter Walwyn, the former champion trainer, has raised more than two million pounds, much of which has been donated to assist the community. It has now built 12 two bedroomed houses and 6 three bedroom houses, greatly needed for stable staff.
There are also plenty of activities throughout the day that helps raise funds for local good causes, this year we raised £30,000. Details for this year here.
